City of San Francisco Food Scan

The city of San Francisco hired Changing Tastes along with Winrock International to develop a roadmap for investing in local food economies on behalf of five cities: San Francisco, Portland, Minneapolis, Seattle, and Vancouver. Changing Tastes identified ways cities could invest to increase local economic activity, create jobs, increase wages, and improve access to healthy foods. Through this project, Changing Tastes also found that investing in local food businesses can offer competitive returns to providing subsidies and tax breaks to other industries. They developed a roadmap for North American Cites cities to use in making the case for local and regional food sector investment, along with a set of decision-making and risk management tools for their clients to use when deciding where to invest public funds in the food sector.
